Prop firm consistency rules, by phase

Almost every comparison publishes one consistency percentage per firm. A single number cannot express this rule. It changes with the phase you are in, and two firms printing the same percentage can be dividing by different things. Apex has no consistency rule during an evaluation and 50% once funded. Take Profit Trader is the exact reverse.

We published this wrong ourselves. A flat “30%” for Apex appeared in fifteen places on this site for months, when Apex actually runs three regimes and a separate rule that shares the number. The audit's conclusion was that the mistake was the data model, not a bad figure — which is why this page is organised by phase rather than by firm.

Every firm, every phase

Firms sell several plan families side by side, and they do not share a percentage — so each row names the families it applies to.

“No consistency rule” means we checked and there is none. “Not checked” means nobody has read that firm's documentation for that phase — it is never rendered as an absence. Every phase shown is verified.

What the percentage does not tell you

Apex Trader FundingNo rule in evaluation, 50% once funded — and a legacy 30% that expires

Evaluations carry no consistency rule at all: only the profit goal and the trailing drawdown. Current funded accounts run 50%. Legacy PA accounts run 30%, and that one stops applying after the sixth payout or on transfer to a live account.

apextraderfunding.com “50% Consistency Requirement” and “Consistency Rules for Legacy PA and Funded Accounts”, read 2026-07-31.

Take Profit TraderThe exact opposite of Apex

A 50% rule during the evaluation with a five-day minimum, and no consistency rule at all once funded. If you have internalised how Apex works, this is backwards — and the drawdown flips from end-of-day to intraday at the same boundary.

TopStepSame headline number, different denominator

TopStep measures consistency against the PROFIT TARGET, not against total profit. A 50% rule that divides by a fixed target is not the same rule as a 50% rule that divides by what you have actually made, even though both print as “50%”.

TradeifyLightning has a purchase-date vintage

Lightning accounts bought on or after 12 September 2025 scale 20% → 25% → 30% across payouts. Accounts bought earlier stay at a flat 20% forever. Two traders on the same named plan can hold different rules.

Lucid TradingLucidPro splits on purchase date too

LucidPro runs 40%, or 35% if the account was bought or reset before 28 November 2025.

Lucid Trading plan documentation, read 2026-07-31.

Blue Guardian FuturesDirect scales with the payout number

Blue Guardian Direct moves 20% → 25% → 30% as you take payouts, so the rule tightens exactly as the account matures.

Top One FuturesS2F Sim PRO is not a consistency rule at all

It uses a 20% Equity Stability Score rather than a best-day ratio, alongside a minimum of ten trading days of which seven must be profitable. Filing it under “20% consistency” would be a category error.

Top One Futures plan documentation, read 2026-07-31.

Earn2Trade Futures30% in evaluation, nothing once funded

Both the Trader Career Path and the Gauntlet carry 30% during evaluation, and neither LiveSim nor Live carries a consistency rule.

How the rule actually behaves

Breaching it does not fail your account

On the firms we have checked, exceeding the consistency ratio makes a payout request unavailable — it does not breach the account and there is usually no time limit on fixing it. Trading on is the remedy.

The window resets when you get paid

It is measured on net profit since your last approved payout, not over the lifetime of the account. A payout resets the denominator, which is why the rule bites hardest right after one.

Losing days make it worse, not better

Losses shrink the denominator. A $1,000 best day against $800 of net profit since the last payout is 125% — worse than the same best day against $3,000, even though the best day never changed.

Nothing is forfeited

A day above the threshold still counts in full toward your profit. The rule gates when you can withdraw, it does not cap or delete profit.

Common questions

What is a prop firm consistency rule?

A cap on how much of your profit may come from a single day. A 50% rule means your best day cannot exceed half of the net profit you have made since your last approved payout. It is a payout gate, not a loss limit.

Does breaking the consistency rule fail your account?

On the firms we have checked, no. Exceeding the ratio makes a payout request unavailable until further profit brings it back into line. The account keeps trading, and there is usually no deadline.

Do consistency rules apply during the evaluation or only once funded?

It depends entirely on the firm, and two large firms are exact opposites. Apex has no consistency rule during an evaluation and 50% once funded. Take Profit Trader has 50% during the evaluation and none once funded. Comparing firms without naming the phase produces an answer that is wrong for whichever phase you are in.

Do two firms with a 50% consistency rule work the same way?

Not necessarily. TopStep measures against the profit target; Apex measures against profit actually made since the last payout. Identical percentages, different denominators, and materially different in practice.

Can losing days break the consistency rule?

Yes, and this surprises people. The rule is a ratio, and losses shrink the denominator. A $1,000 best day against $800 of net profit is 125% — worse than the same day against $3,000 — even though the best day never changed.

To check a specific account against its own rule, the consistency calculator does the arithmetic per plan, and drawdown types covers the other rule that changes between phases.
